Gut Health Test Kit

Find out what’s causing your dog’s most miserable symptoms with AnimalBiomes Gut Health Test.

It’s simple:

  • Grab the test
  • Measure your dog’s gut health
  • Compare it against a healthy dog

Why Should You Measure Gut Health?

Many common health conditions are caused or worsened by an imbalance of the bacteria and bugs that live in your dog's gut. These healthy bacteria play a critical role in your dog's health like:

  • Protect your dog from viruses and harmful bacteria
  • A critical part of your dog's immune system
  • Form a protective barrier against drugs, toxins, allergens and cancer-causing substances
  • Produce enzymes to help your dog digest and use his food
  • Talk with his brain and affect his mood
  • Produce many of your dog's vitamins
  • Produce healthy short chain fatty acids (SCFAs)

An imbalance in gut bacteria is now thought to be the primary cause of most diseases and nutritional deficiencies.

A 2007 study in cats with inflammatory bowel disease found that healthy cats had a much higher bacteria count in their gut. And a 2014 article in Cell found that people living in high-income countries have microbiomes that are less diverse and less resilient than those from third world countries.

Should Your Dog Be Tested?

There are many environmental stressors that can destroy the beneficial bacteria in your dog's gut and allow the harmful bacteria to flourish. These include:

1. Worms and Parasites

Have you given your dog a dewormer? Not only do these drugs damage the microbiome, intestinal worms actually communicate with the microbiome. Some studies even show that worms can rebalance the microbiome.

2. Processed Foods

Just like humans, dogs living in high income countries enjoy ready-made, processed foods. And most processed foods are high in starch. Sugar and refined starches are quickly absorbed in the digestive tract, before the microbes living there can digest them. That means they need to find an alternate source of food and they can start munching on the cells that line your dog’s intestines. When this happens, your dog can develop leaky gut, which causes chronic inflammation in your dog. This often shows up as allergy symptoms, yeast, joint pain and other ailments. Processed foods are also sterile. The bacteria have been heated and processed out of them. The microbes living in your dog’s gut die off and need to be replaced in his diet. If his food is deficient in bacteria, your dog’s microbiome will begin to become less populated … the colonies will start to die off without any new immigrants.

 3. Genetically Modified Foods

Does your dog’s food contain soy, corn, beets, alfalfa or other genetically modified foods? The glyphosate that’s sprayed on these foods works by disabling something called the Shikamate pathway in pests. This pathway is how they convert food to fuel so glyphosate starves them by shutting off this pathway. Scientists claim glyphosate is safe for humans and other animals like your dog because we don’t have the Shikamate pathway … we use different pathways to metabolize our foods. The problem is, the microbes in the microbiome DO have a Shikimate pathway. So glyphosate will destroy your dog’s microbiome as fast as anything. Except …

4. Antibiotics, Drugs & Vaccines

Antibiotics are like carpet bombers … they destroy every little microbe within range and can essentially wipe out your dog’s entire microbiome. Not only will the pathogenic bacteria be destroyed, but all the friendly bugs that build your dog’s vitamins and construct his immune system will be destroyed too. Drugs and vaccines can also have the same impact.

There are many other ways to harm the microbiome, including:

  • Artificial flavors
  • Preservatives
  • Pasteurization
  • Dairy
  • Flea and tick meds
  • Vaccines
  • Drugs
  • Stress

Do any of these sound familiar? This is why dysbiosis is probably the largest epidemic in dogs today.

And this is why your dog's gut health should be tested!

What Health Problems Can Poor Gut Health Create?

Poor gut health caused by an imbalance in gut bacteria can be the real cause of your dog's health issues including:

  • Allergies
  • Joint pain
  • Immune related diseases
  • Chronic inflammation
  • Yeast
  • Digestive issues
  • Much, much more ...

Caring for your dog is no longer enough ...

In today's toxic world, even raw-fed dogs can suffer from poor gut health.

Not only do you need to feed and care for your dog ... you need to feed and care for a few trillion of his little bacteria friends!

Developed by researchers at UC Davis at the University at California, the AnimalBiome Gut Health Test Kit is the quickest and most accurate way to measure your dog's gut health ...

... so you can help prevent or manage common health issues.

What is the gut microbiome?

The microbiome is the community of bacteria, fungi, and viruses that live in your dog's body and especially his gut.  A balanced, healthy microbiome helps your pet maintain a healthy weight, absorb nutrients, improve mood, and maintain a strong immune system.

What is a fecal transplant?

A fecal transplant is a process where stool from a healthy dog is transferred to a sick dog in order to re-establish a healthy microbiome in the gut.

What's included in the Gut Health Test kit?

The Gut Health Test Kit comes everything you need, including step-by-step instructions, to take a sample of your dog’s stool and mail it back (in a pre-paid envelope) to Animal Biome's laboratory. Each kit comes with:

  • Two collection tubes (one is a backup)
  • Sterile cotton swabs to sample your dog’s fecal matter
  • Surgical gloves
  • Step-by-step instructions
  • A small plastic bag for enclosing the collection tube
  • A padded mailer (already addressed) to return your collection tube to the Animal Biome laboratory (pre-paid shipping within the continental US)

Note: The fresher the stool sample, the more accurate the results.

When should I test my dog?

If your dog presents symptoms like diarrhea, skin, weight and immune system issues, it is important to test him to find out the causes and address them. After the treatment is complete, it is recommended you retest him to confirm his microbiome is healthy again.

How do I get my dog's test results?

After Animal Biome processes the sample, you will receive a report in 2-4 weeks via email and can go online to the Pet Portal to explore and understand your dog's test results.

You can see a sample of the results here:

Every Dog Deserves A Healthy, Happy Life!

We love dogs and we try to give them the best life possible. Money is no object when it comes to their food and veterinary care ... but half of adult dogs today will still get cancer.

That's a staggering statistic - and it's a statistic we want to do something about.

And that's how Dogs Naturally was born - out of a need to get back to basics and change our dog's health care from chemicals, drugs, pesticides, antibiotics and processed foods, to whole fresh foods, proven natural supplements and a strong, healthy immune system. We believe the path to a truly healthy dog lies not in protecting him from disease with chemicals, but in supporting his health and immune system so he doesn't get disease in the first place.

We believe that good health and disease resistance come from within - so we work with leading holistic veterinarians to help dog owners like you give their dogs the gift of good health through a more natural lifestyle.

Everything we do is to support you in your own journey toward natural healthcare. From the magazine to the free blog articles and guides, from the DNM Academy to DNM University, we're here to give you a safe, friendly community where you can get quick health tips and even earn certifications in natural healthcare topics.

Dogs Naturally Market is just one part of that community. While we offer many free, DIY guides for dog owners, some of you want a "done for you" approach.
